Background and interesting factsThe Boland rugby union was established in 1939 and is the 11th oldest rugby province in the country. The Boland has a wonderful history and the Koch's and van der Merwe's became household names in SA Rugby. Important facts about Boland Rugby1. Recently the Boland has become the great producer of talent from previously disadvantaged players in SA. This is done through training, coaching and special projects of which the Jack Abrahams House is the most significant example. Several players in the current SA rugby framework have come through the Boland and Jack Abrahams House. The following players played for the Boland Schools side regularly but left the Boland immediately after school because of the reasons give above. The Boland is the province with the most clubs and players in SA rugby and is the second largest province in square kilometers (200 000 skm). This includes other towns like: Citrusdal, Darling, Lambertsbaai, Lutzville, Nuwerus, Porterville, Saldanha, Touwsrivier and Villiersdorp. The Boland Rugby Union consists of 50 senior clubs, 70 junior clubs and 125 clubs from smaller towns and farm teams. The total number of players is aproximately 10 500. SchoolsThere are approximately 120 High Schools with 600 teams and 12 000 players.There are 250 Primary Schools with 700 official teams and 12 000 players. All games will be played at the Boland Rugby Stadium from 5 - 9 July. There will be wide coverage of the Cravenweek on Radio, Press and other media. 2. Currie Cup Vodacom. In the past few years Boland Rugby did get its fair share of coverage on TV. The Currie Cup Competition has been changed and Boland will again play in the Currie Cup from 2005. This means more exposure on television. 3. Tickets in the Presidential Suite will be made available as well as tickets on the Main Stand. 4.
